Celebrating Serenity: Highlights from the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at Patiya Central Buddhist Monastery & Welfare Complex, November 24, 2023

Patiya Central Buddhist Monastery & Welfare Complex completed the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony with religious solemnity and blissfully on November 24, 2023, at the Monastery premises with a gathering of many Uasak-Upasika.

In the afternoon of the second phase, at 1:30 PM, the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony started with a huge magnificent, and splendid appearance and religious solemnity. The whole program was beautifully conducted by Venerable Dr. Sanghapriya Mahathero, Secretary General of Bangladesh Sangharaj Bhikkhu Mahasabha; and Founder & Principal of this Monastery.

Agramahapandit Ekushey Padak recipient His Highness Sangharaj Dr. Gyansree Mahathero was present as the benefactor. Saddharmajyotikadhvaja Pandit Vasumitra Mahathero presided over the second phase of the event. The chief Dhamma speaker was Ven. M. Bodhimitra Mahathero, Deputy Secretary General of Bangladesh Sangharaj Bhikkhu Mahasabha.

We want to mention who has been propagating Buddhism at home and abroad none other than he is Venerable Shasanakirti Phra H Mahipal Mahathero, Bangladesh Representative of Dhammakaya Foundation, Thailand and he also presents as a special guest and offering Kathina Robe and donation on behalf of Dhammakaya Foundation, Thailand.

Ven. Sharansen Mahathero, Ven. Jinpriya Mahathero, Ven. Gyanrakshit Mahathero, Ven. Vinayarakshit Mahathero, Ven. Shilpal Thero, Ven. Sangharathan Thero, Ven. Ratnananda Thero was present as the Dhamma speaker. Ven. Shilaratna Thero was one of the founding members of this Monastery felicitated with a floral wreath and crest and 24 founding members of this Monastery were honored with floral wreaths and crests for those who played a leading role in the establishment of this Monastery.
Ven. Buddhasevak Thero presented the inaugural speech at the opening of the ceremony. Former Judge Mr. Sukumar Barua and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Barua, Lion Sohel Barua as well as many ladies and gentlemen and lay Buddhists came with a pure appearance.

BCS Cadre Lecturer Amit Barua and those who passed the SSC & HSC examination with A+ were felicitated with a crest. At this auspicious ceremony, those who had the highest attendance at Nalanda Institute of Buddhist Education were their mothers, and they were felicitated with crests as first, second, and third.

Students of Nalanda Institute of Buddhist Education enthralled the audience by performing Buddha Kirtan with their melodious voices.

In the morning of the first phase, at 9.30 am lay Buddhists offered Sangha Dana to Bhikkhu-Sangha for their ancestors’ otherworldly peace. President of the first phase Soumasarathi Ven. Shamanmitra Mahathero. Venerable Somananda Mahathero was present as the chief guest in the Maha Sangha in the auspicious ceremony. Venerable Prajnananda Mahathero was present at the inauguration ceremony. Dhamma speakers such as Pragyasar Mahathero, Mettananda Bhikkhu, M. Prajnamitra Thero, and Prajnananda Thero were present in the auspicious ceremony.

Especially thanks a lot & blessings to Nalanda’s former students and members and students for all of your help and you doing all the work with pure hearts and bravery. Heartiest blessings to all Upasak-Upasika for coming with a pure appearance and being seated for a long time with patience.

Every human being has the hand of some great person behind growing up. Similarly, the contribution of Buddha Shabak Bhikkhu’s (certificate & passport name: Bhuddha Shabak Sramon) maternal uncle revered late Priyashil Mahathero (Prominent Buddhist Monk) is very memerable in the struggle for the life of him. He was born in the traditional village of Kalauzan under Lohagara upazila, Chattogram, Bangladesh. His parents are Sunil Kanti Barua & Suva Rani Barua. When his father passed away at the age of 10, there was none to take the helm of his family. Then his revered maternal uncle brought him to Hasimpur Sunandaram Bihar (Buddhist Monastery) and admitted him to the school. After passing class 5, his revered uncle brought him to his own monastery. From there, with his uncle's indomitable inspiration, a new chapter in his educational life began and his uncle took his educational life forward with absolute compassion.He continued his education in many struggles. He took ordination on 16 July 2012 from most Venerable Basumitra Mahathero inspired by his revered uncle Priyashil Mahathero. He completed his Secondary & Intermediate education from Gachbaria N. G. Model High School & Gachbaria Government College. He received his Graduation and Post-graduation in English literature from the renowned university BGC Trust University Bangladesh. Now he is the president of the Buddhist Monk Student’s Association of Bangladesh; Secretary General & Chief Resident of Patiya Central Buddhist Monastery & Welfare Complex; General Member of Sangharaj Purnachar Bhikkhu Sangsad (Association); Executive Member of Pravati and Assistant Information & Technology Secretary of Bangladesh Sangharaj Bhikkhu Mahasabha (The Supreme Sangha Council of Bangladesh).
