Interfaith Peace Conference and MOU Signing Held at Patiya Central Buddhist Monastery

Patiya, Chattogram, May 8, 2026:
The Bangladesh Religious Peace Academy conference, along with an MOU signing ceremony and peace gathering, was successfully held at Patiya Central Buddhist Monastery & Welfare Complex with the cooperation of HWPL Global 03 Branch. The event brought together religious leaders, educators, students, guardians, and community representatives in a spirit of peace, harmony, and interfaith understanding.

The program began with a welcome speech delivered by Dr. Sanghapriya Mahathero, Founder and Chief Abbot of Patiya Central Buddhist Monastery & Welfare Complex. In his address, he emphasized the importance of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and interreligious cooperation in building a better future for society and the next generation.

The event was jointly moderated by Venerable Bhuddha Shabak Sramon and Swapan Das, whose presentations and coordination added dignity and warmth to the gathering.

Special appreciation was extended to Elly Yoon, Jacob Bae, and Benjamin Kim for their dedicated efforts and continuous cooperation in making the conference meaningful and successful.

The conference featured keynote discussions on the theme, “Gratitude and Forgiveness in Sacred Scriptures.” Distinguished speakers included Samshad Sattar, Engr. Suvra Dev Kar, Sanat Kumar Barua, Ven. Rafulu Barua, Pastor Pradip Dey, and Jisu Krisna Rakhsit.

Among those present were Venerable Somananda Mahathero, Sharensen Mahathero, Jinapriya Mahathero, Buddhist monks, students of the Nalanda Institute of Buddhist Education, teachers, guardians, and local community leaders.

Speakers at the event highlighted that meaningful interfaith gatherings play a vital role in promoting harmony, tolerance, and mutual understanding among different religious communities. They also stressed the importance of educating younger generations with the values of peace, compassion, gratitude, and forgiveness through constructive and educational activities.

The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to all participants and contributors who dedicated more than three hours to the peace gathering and hoped that such interfaith dialogues, collaborations, and educational initiatives would continue for many years to come.

Every human being has the hand of some great person behind growing up. Similarly, the contribution of Buddha Shabak Bhikkhu’s (certificate & passport name: Bhuddha Shabak Sramon) maternal uncle revered late Priyashil Mahathero (Prominent Buddhist Monk) is very memerable in the struggle for the life of him. He was born in the traditional village of Kalauzan under Lohagara upazila, Chattogram, Bangladesh. His parents are Sunil Kanti Barua & Suva Rani Barua. When his father passed away at the age of 10, there was none to take the helm of his family. Then his revered maternal uncle brought him to Hasimpur Sunandaram Bihar (Buddhist Monastery) and admitted him to the school. After passing class 5, his revered uncle brought him to his own monastery. From there, with his uncle's indomitable inspiration, a new chapter in his educational life began and his uncle took his educational life forward with absolute compassion.He continued his education in many struggles. He took ordination on 16 July 2012 from most Venerable Basumitra Mahathero inspired by his revered uncle Priyashil Mahathero. He completed his Secondary & Intermediate education from Gachbaria N. G. Model High School & Gachbaria Government College. He received his Graduation and Post-graduation in English literature from the renowned university BGC Trust University Bangladesh. Now he is the president of the Buddhist Monk Student’s Association of Bangladesh; Secretary General & Chief Resident of Patiya Central Buddhist Monastery & Welfare Complex; General Member of Sangharaj Purnachar Bhikkhu Sangsad (Association); Executive Member of Pravati and Assistant Information & Technology Secretary of Bangladesh Sangharaj Bhikkhu Mahasabha (The Supreme Sangha Council of Bangladesh).
